Gigi Hadid's representative has clarified recent reports about her and a friend being arrested for possessing marijuana at Owen Roberts International Airport during their vacation in the Cayman Islands on July 10. The popular entertainment news outlet TMZ initially reported on the arrest earlier today.
According to the representative, Gigi Hadid was carrying marijuana that she had legally purchased in New York City with a medical license. They also mentioned that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. It's important to note that Gigi's legal record remains clear, and she was able to enjoy the rest of her time on the island without any issues.
Another media outlet called E! pointed out that a local source, Cayman Marl Road, reported that Hadid was charged with "possession of ganja," and customs officers found smoking tools in her luggage. The quantity of marijuana found was described as "relatively small" and seemed to be for her personal use. TMZ confirmed that airport staff determined the amount was indeed for personal consumption.
As per TMZ, Hadid and her friend were arrested on charges of importing marijuana and possessing smoking tools. They were taken to the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center for processing but were released on bail the same day while awaiting further legal proceedings. On July 12, they appeared in Summary Court and pleaded guilty, each paying a fine of $1,000. It's worth noting that no conviction was recorded on their records, as reported by TMZ and Cayman Marl Road, which Gigi Hadid's representative confirmed.
Despite the incident, Gigi Hadid shared photos of her enjoying her trip to the Cayman Islands on her Instagram account, demonstrating that she had moved past the incident and continued to enjoy her vacation.
