or ExitNBA Allows Cannabis Use and CBD Endorsements in New Agreement
League officials and the NBA Players Association have reached a new agreement that removes cannabis from the list of banned substances. This change was initially put in place on a temporary basis in 2020, and now it has been made permanent.
Under the new policy, the league will no longer randomly test players for cannabis or punish those who test positive. However, if a player is suspected of having issues with marijuana dependency, they may be referred to the Medical Director for evaluation.
Similar changes have also been made in other sports leagues like Major League Baseball. While the NFL and the NHL still test some players for cannabis, they no longer suspend those who test positive. The National Collegiate Athletic Association has also expressed support for removing cannabis from its banned substances list and testing protocols.
Additionally, the NBA agreement allows players to endorse and promote CBD products, as long as the products are not from marijuana companies. This is a new opportunity for players to participate in this industry.
